It is with great sadness that we announce the passing our mother and grandmother, Joan Elizabeth MacFadden, age 88, on Friday November 18, 2022 at the Northside General Hospital.

Born in Sydney, NS, on December 27, 1933, Joan was the daughter of the late Clifton and Evelyn (MacGillivray) Bagnell of Gabarus. Joan was a school teacher for many years at the Georges River School. She was a member of Carmen United Church, Sydney Mines, former member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney, St Andrew’s United Church, Little Bras d’Or, was an active member with the U.C.W. for many years and enjoyed spending time with her friends as part of the Knotty Nannies Club. Joan and her husband Gordon enjoyed the summer months at her family home in Gabarus for many years.

Joan is survived by her son; Brian MacFadden, Georges River, daughter; Brenda MacFadden, Grand Prairie, Alberta, daughter-in-law; Frances MacFadden, three grandchildren; Valerie Targett, Michael MacFadden and Rebecca MacIntyre, six great grandchildren; Bailea, Aria, Mason, Aria, Logan, Johanna and Zander.

Besides her parents Joan was predeceased by her husband Gordon MacFadden, a son Stephen MacFadden, daughter-in-law Sharon Iannetti and aunt Marjorie Reid.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Northside Community Guest Home, Dr. Alexander Wawer, the doctors and nurses at the ER Department, Cape Breton Regional Hospital and the nurses and staff on 4West at Northside General Hospital for the excellent care given to Joan.

Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 pm Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Saturday at Carmen United Church, Sydney Mines with Rev. Nick Phillips officiating. Burial to follow at Lakeview Cemetery, Gabarus.
