Jobe Williams Obituary

Jobe Williams

North Sydney

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Jobe Williams, age 93 on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at the Northside Community Guest Home.

Born in Port Aux Port, Nfld., on October 17, 1927 and raised in Pools Cove, he was the son of the late George and Sarah (Matthews) Williams.  Jobe came to North Sydney in 1946 and became a longtime resident of Brook Street.  Everyone knew him as the “rabbit man”.  He passionately loved hunting, fishing and playing the spoons and accordion. Jobe was a longtime, loyal and dedicated member of the North Sydney Fire Department. He was also a special constable with the North Sydney Police Department.  In his early years Jobe grew up Dory fishing, worked at Leonard & H.B. Nickerson Fish Plants in North Sydney and sailed on various vessels. Jobe retired from Marine Atlantic where he worked as a stevedore in his later years.

Jobe is survived by his four sons, Jobe Jr. (Leona), John (Diane), Dave (Holly) and Ron (Wendy), his seven grandchildren Kenny, Barbara, Davey, Jason, Jonathan, Jeremy and Ron Jr., several great-grandchildren and a special niece Phyllis Reid.

Jobe was predeceased by his wife Margaret in March 2021, his brothers Jack, Edgar, George, Max and sisters Lily, Nellie, Alice and Dorothy.

The family would like to thank the staff of Teresa Terrace at the Northside Community Guest Home for the excellent care given to Jobe during his stay there.

Davey (caregiver) would also like to express his sincere gratitude to the VON and Homecare for helping him keep his grandfather on Brook Street for as long as he could.

A private visitation will be held.  A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday at St. Matthew Wesley United Church in North Sydney with Marjorie Serafinus officiating.  Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. Covid-19 restrictions will be in place at the church with the wearing of masks, social distancing and limited seating. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
