It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the peaceful passing of John James Devison, age 81, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, on Friday, March 31, 2023 at home.

Born in North Sydney on June 16, 1941, he was the son of the late Clarence and Elizabeth (Williamson) Devison.  John was a Marine Engineer by trade and worked for Marine Atlantic for many years until his retirement.  He was a Mason with the Royal Albert Lodge #19 in North Sydney.  John was a faithful and active member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church and served on many committees.

He is survived by his wife Evelyn (Hayward), his children Kathy (Hugh John) Chisholm, John (Monica Maletz) Devison, Pamela (Doug) MacLeod; his eight grandchildren Caitlin, Lindsey, Alex (Marissa), Garrett (Sina), Shelby (Brian), Kylea, Maxwell, Nicholas (Meg); two great-grandchildren Piper and Benjamin.  He is also survived by his siblings Emily Smith, Henry (Patricia), Mary (Donald) Hood, Barbara (Ron) Bullin, Richard (Michelle), many nieces and nephews. 

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother William and an infant brother, granddaughter Andrea, brothers-in-law Norm Smith, Graham, Brian and Calvin Hayward, father and mother-in-law Charles and Annie Hayward.  

Visitation for John will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthew Wesley United Church, Leitches Creek with Rev. Stephen Mills officiating.  A reception will follow the service in the church hall.   Burial in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date.  Online condolences may be sent to the family by leaving a message on the tribute wall of the obituary at www.wjdooley.com.
