It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, John Garfield Hurley, Age 80. John passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 25, 2022.
Born in Maccan, NS, on May 26, 1942, John was the son of Charles Augustus Hurley and Hazel Bernice (Cameron) Hurley. John served 30 years with the Royal Canadian Regiment, 1st Battalion, for which he was very proud, retiring as Sergeant. Upon his retirement he spent many hours doing the things he loved most. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. John also liked to dabble in gold prospecting. He was also a splendid cook, providing good meals for family and for friends who often stopped by.
John is survived by his three sons, John W. (Shelley), Aaron (Laura) and Draper; his grandchildren Sean Hurley and Bianca Roberts; brothers Chuck (Charlene), Fred Hurley; sisters Joan Murphy and Midge Wood; sister-in-law Star Hurley; also, many nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his grandson Tim Hurley; brother Doug; nephew Trevor Hurley; niece Joy Wood; and brother-in-law John Murphy.
