John Neil MacLeod passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Tuesday, March 14, 2023. 

Born in MacKinnon’s Harbour on March 3, 1943, John was the son of the late Bertha (Bonaparte) and Colin MacLeod.  He was a devout member of the Sacred Heart Mission Church, MacKinnon’s Harbour, St. Columba Parish, Iona. 

John worked all his life in the hospitality industry, starting in 1964 at the Isle Royal Hotel in Sydney to later years at the Silver Dart in Baddeck, then the North Star Inn in North Sydney.  He made many friends over the years. 

Surviving are his brother Bernie MacLeod (Sydney, NS), beloved nephews Bernie, Cyril and Carl MacLeod, and nieces Carmie and Judy Burns and Sandy Stott and their families. 

He was predeceased by his parents Bertha and Colin MacLeod, his brother Joe MacLeod, sister-in-law Jane (nee Musgrave) MacLeod, his nephew Bernie’s wife, Margie MacLeod. 

Visitation for John will be held from 12:30 to 2:30 pm at St. Columba Church, Iona, on Friday, March 17.  A funeral Mass will follow in the church at 2:30.   Arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J.
