John Pinaud Obituary

John W. Pinaud
North Sydney

It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of John Walter Pinaud, age 74, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, on Sunday, May 10, 2020, surrounded by music and his loving family.

Born in North Sydney on February 8, 1946, he was the son of the late Ralph and Mary (Sullivan) Pinaud.
John was one of two sons, raised on the waters of Baddeck exploring in the family yacht yard. After completing high school, he attended Memorial University and graduated as an Architectural Draftsman. He worked with Gavel and Associates in Sydney and a brief time with JonelJim Construction until his retirement in 2001.
John was a talented craftsman and a “jack of all trades.” He was frequently called upon by friends and family to aid in the repairing or building of many projects. He was a long-time member of Northern Yacht Club in North Sydney where he made many friendships over the years. He was particularly proud of his participation in the design of the new building after the fire and of the gazebo that sits prominently at the end of the new wharf.

John was an able woodworker as well. He spent long and contented hours in his workshop creating many projects over the years, none more important than the toys and gifts made for his children and grandchildren.  John had a terrific sense of humour and had the ability to tell a great story. He gave generously of his time and talents to any who needed it and was a loyal friend to many.  He spent summer months aboard his boat, the Aquarius, travelling the Bras D'or Lakes with his boating family and docked along the shore of "Rocky's Beach". There were trips to D'Escousse and boat festivals where he made many great friends along the way.

Above all he was a family man who adored his grandchildren, was so proud of his "girls" and never left the house or went to sleep without a kiss and 'I love you' for his Dale.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Dale (Dowling) Pinaud; by his three daughters, Michelle Pinaud (Rick Ingram), Georges River, Erin Pinaud (Eric Ngoile), Dartmouth, Bridget Pinaud (John Ramia), Halifax; his five grandchildren, Marielle, Lulu, Jack, Magnus, Rafe; brother, Ralph Pinaud (Sharon), Lower Sackville; sisters-in-law, Brenda (Alex) MacPhee, Astelle (Clifford) Stubbert, Debbie (Terry) MacDonald, Debbie Dowling; brothers-in-law, Brian (Frances) Dowling and Glen (Deborah) Dowling; many loving nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, John was predeceased by two brothers-in-law, Stephen Dowling and David Dowling.

Due to restrictions surrounding Covid-19 there will be no visitation. A Funeral Mass and Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Holy Family Church in Sydney Mines. Burial will take place in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Florence.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, North Sydney.
