John “Jack” Morris
Balls Creek
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John “Jack” Thomas Morris who died on May 16, 2025, at the age of 92. He passed peacefully surrounded by family at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Beloved husband of Marilyn for 40 years, Jack was a devoted family man whose legacy lives on in those he loved so deeply. He was the proud father of five children: Thomas (Darlene), Terry (Kim), Ian (Irene), Sibby (John) Fudge, Rob (Kim), and stepson Gary (Deanna) Waye.
He was a cherished grandfather to ten grandchildren: Tara (Todd), Nicole (Kenny), Michael, Courtney (Victor), Jennica (Brian), Chad, Riley (Mallory), and Sophey (Emily), BJ and Amy. He was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren: Jayme (Karl), Peter, Thomas, Jacob, Jordan, Isabella, Bryson, and Carter.
Jack is survived by his loving sister Sadie (Stan) O’Toole and was predeceased by his parents, Riley and Mary (Dolimont) Morris, his brothers Kenneth, Richard, Stewart, and Junior Morris, and his sisters Lucy in infancy, Margaret Taylor, Madeline Ross, Arthena Peverelle, and Francis Wales.
On Saturday mornings, Jack would take the children with him in the van to pick up the laundry. What could have been just another chore became a treasured tradition — mini-adventures filled with laughs and moments that turned into stories retold for generations.
Jack was a hardworking man, active to the very end. He worked tirelessly until his eyes retired him. Over the years, he was a driver of all kinds — the milkman, the laundry man for Snow-white, the bus driver for Transit Cape Breton, and a cab driver. He was a man of motion who simply could not sit still. He had an incredible work ethic, something proudly passed on to his children.
Jack was a loving husband, brother, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was friendly and outgoing, able to strike up a conversation with anyone, and he loved sharing a good laugh. Jack had a special bond with his grandchildren, often taking them for rides on the lawnmower or bus rides — a small but treasured joy that captured his generous spirit.
He knew everyone and everyone knew him. Jack’s legacy is not only in the family he raised and loved but also in the many lives he touched with his kindness, warmth, and relentless drive.
A visitation for Jack will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday May 22nd in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
