John "Jack" Penny Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we, the family of John (Jack) Edward Joseph Penny, announce his peaceful passing on May 16, 2025, at the age of 81, in his hometown of North Sydney, Nova Scotia.

Born on April 22, 1944, in North Sydney, Jack lived a life rooted in family, community, and unwavering dedication to his work and passions. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth (Godreau), cherished father of Mandy (Chris) Harron, and proud grandfather to Reanna, Lauren (Owen), and Cody (Sav). He was also blessed to welcome his great-granddaughter, Amazing Grace, who brought him immense joy. He is also survived by daughters Nancy (Philip) Andre and Heather (Peter Floris) Penny from a previous marriage. Jack will be deeply missed by his brothers Doug Penny and David (Lisa) Penny and fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews, extended family, friends, colleagues, and the many lives he touched throughout his life. He was predeceased by his mother Mary Margaret Penny (Minnie), a loving daughter Karen and sister-in-law Barbara.

Jack dedicated over 30 years to teaching electrical studies at Memorial High School in Sydney Mines, where he mentored generations of students with patience, knowledge, and a genuine desire to see others succeed. Beyond the classroom, he was the founder and operator of RLC Enterprises and Jack Penny Electric, building a respected reputation in his field. A proud and longstanding member of IBEW Local 1852 for over four decades, Jack embodied the spirit of hard work and integrity.

A lifelong lover of hockey, Jack played throughout his youth in school and at the old North Sydney Forum. He also had a deep love for the game of golf, spending countless days at Seaview Golf Course, Belle Bay, Highlands Links, and beyond, often enjoying the companionship of good friends and the beauty of the game. He especially treasured his weekend drives with friends and the simple joys of being surrounded by those he loved.
