John "Jackie" Garvin Steele

It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Jackie Steele on Monday September 23, 2024 at the age of 62.

Born in North Sydney on March 4, 1962, Jackie was the youngest son of the late Garvin and Audrey (Newton) Steele.  Jackie was a loyal soul; a loving brother, uncle, and friend to all. Always by his side, was his adored dog “Charlie”. In his relationships, Jackie’s loyalty was evident; many of his existing, close friendships, he enjoyed since childhood. He was a true friend for life.

Jackie was a businessman, owner of Eagle RV Services Ltd. in Sydney River.  He was also a car enthusiast, beginning with his first vehicle as a young teenager.  Jackie loved sports. In high school he was a skilled athlete, excelling in hockey and track and field. He was a competitor by nature; he played hockey for the Memorial Marauders and won numerous running awards.

Jackie thoroughly loved life; he loved deeply and unconditionally.  He will be sorely missed.

Survived by his brother, David Steele of Ellershouse; sister, Debbie (George) Young, George’s River; nephew, Steven Steele, Halifax; nieces: Alana Steele, Halifax, Terri (Bob) Steele-Gates, Enfield, Rhonda (Mike) Steele-Ocallaghan, Shelburne, Kim Steele, Ottawa, Chris (Dwayne) Power, Grande Prairie, and Michelle Young, Sackville. Jackie held a special place in his heart for Michelle Turbide and daughter Hannah; his longtime and caring friend John McInnis; his childhood friend John Gordon; his over 40-year special friendship with Kimberley Buffett; and his friend and business partner Eric MacKinnon.

Besides his parents, Jackie was predeceased by his sister, Allison Steele; brother, Bentley Steele.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to the 5.2 ICU staff of the Halifax Infirmary for their compassion, kindness and care during this very difficult time.

A visitation for Jackie will be held between 1-3 pm on Friday, October 4, with a funeral service beginning at 3 pm in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home Chapel with Patrick O’Neill officiating.
