John William “Beezer/Bee” Carey
North Sydney
It is with broken hearts and sadness that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of John William Carey on Friday January 5, 2024 at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney. He was 84 years of age.
Born in Bras d’Or on July 7, 1939, he was the son of the late John H. and Annie (Clifford) Carey. He was known as “Beezer” or “Bee” to everyone and had a thirty plus year career as a truck driver, until his retirement.
He is survived by six children, Anne Marie (Tom) Gillis, Mary Jean Harrietha (John), Richard (Candace), Linda Carey, Kevin (Stephanie), and Blaise (Thelma); his siblings, Kevin (Wilma), Ann (John) Camp, Faith (Kim) Lantz. He is further survived by 11 grandchildren, Courtney, Cory, Erica, Kyle, Alexandria, Mary Morganne, Emma, Meighan, Noah, Connor and Shaelyn; 8 great-grandchildren Miles, Julia, Emery, Maverick, Aspen, Theodore, Waylon, and Sophie.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Edith, and his son, John W. Carey.
Dad loved a good conversation, telling stories, and cooking, especially cooking for others. A tall glass of milk (lots of ice), dark chocolate cake, cold slabs of butter with a little homemade bread, boiled dinners, turkey dinners, and of course his favourite - lobster sandwiches!
“Here’s the thing” Dad, we know you’re at peace now and finally getting some rest, but we’re “gonna tell you something right now”, we are really going to miss your stories, your grin and that chuckle.
Forever in our hearts. Xo.
As Dad wished, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. There will be no service at this time. Online condolences can be left for the family by writing on the tribute wall of the obituary page at www.wjdooley.com.
