Joseph Frances Ervin Comeau

Joe passed away suddenly but peacefully at home on Thursday, February 16, 2023.  He was sitting in his favourite chair watching TV with Marlyn and his faithful companion Dusty by his side.

Joe was born in Halifax on August 22, 1955, son of Mary Rebecca and Joseph Norman Comeau.  Brother to Bill, Eugene and Wayne.  They lived in Saulierville on the French Shore, Digby County.  He moved to Labrador, NL with his parents where he mastered his trade of finish carpenter and cabinet maker.  Joe took pride in his work and always aimed for perfection on whatever the project.  He came to Cape Breton while working for a P.E.I. company as a foreman, overseeing cabinet installation for Superstores in Glace Bay and North Sydney.  Joe later returned to Cape Breton and found a loving home with the Shinners family.  He worked for various contractors in the area and made some lasting friendships.  He enjoyed doing small jobs at the North Sydney Fire Station and Hall and made many good friends there including Chief Lloyd MacIntosh and many of the firefighters and workers.

Joe is survived by son George, daughter Janielle Comeau, Marlyn Shinners and the Shinners Family.  He was predeceased by his parents and Marlyn’s mother Beatrice Shinners.  Joe and Beatrice shared many laughs and a warm and loving bond.  He was always there for her as her health declined.

Our sincere thanks are extended to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, especially Dr. Khodadad, Dr. Rent, Dr. Lola Obadan and Eleanor, who gave Joe excellent care over the last seven years.  Many thanks are also extended to the staff at Shopper’s Drug Mart, North Sydney.  There will be no visitation or service at this time.  A grave side service will take place at a later date.  Donations in Joe’s memory may be made to Palliative care or a charity of choice.  Online condolences can be left for the family by leaving a message on the tribute wall of the obituary at www.wjdooley.com.
