It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Arthur Joseph “Joe” Fiander, age 93, on Monday, April 28, 2025, at the Northside General Hospital, following a brief illness.

Born in English Harbour West, Newfoundland, Joe was the son of the late Philip and Ellen (Kinslow) Fiander. Joe was employed for many years with CN Marine, first aboard the coastal boats, later as chief steward on the vessels in the gulf and then ashore with administration for thirty-eight years. He was a member of the Royal Albert Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, proud member of the Naval Veterans Association and warden and parish council member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church. Joe was well known as the Newfoundland music DJ, at the Pensioners Club and many other venues over the years.  He was an avid crib player and longtime fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. Joe was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Joe is survived by his sons; Eric (Jane), Harvey Station, NB, Paul (Carmel), Miramachi, NB, Joe (Cindy), Lyons Brook, NS, Philip (Barb), Rose Blanche, NL; daughters Phyllis (Jim) MacLean, Howie Centre, Joanne (Dennis) Parsons, Dartmouth; twelve grandchildren: Denise, Jennifer, Jeanna, Tyson, Kara, Grant, Samantha, Sara Jane, Chantel, Christy, Alex and Thomas. Also, fifteen great grandchildren, special nephew Clarence Brown and nieces Linda Dolomont and Diane Brown.

Joe was predeceased by his wife of seventy-one years Jean (Brown) Fiander, just ten months ago and by his sister Mary (Doug) Way.

Visitation for Joe will be held from 7-9 pm, Tuesday, May 20, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service will follow at 2 pm, Wednesday, May 21, in the St. John the Baptist Anglican Church. Burial to follow at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
