It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our loving mother, Joyce (Strickland) Anderson, age 93, on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.

Born in West Point, NL on July 24, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Percival and Beatrice (Billard) Strickland and step father Samuel Batstone.

Joyce was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother and was deeply devoted to God. She loved knitting and keeping her family with a supply of dish cloths. She was a member of TOPS North Sydney and loved animals.

She is survived by her children, Russell, Calvin (Donna), Raymond, Lloyd, Bev (Ron), Patsy (Richard), Bonnie (Dave), Darlene (Armand), Wanda (Wayne), Alex (Sandra), Donnie and a special nephew John, who she loved like her son; 22 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, a great greatgrandchild, as well as many other nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 52 years, Tom Anderson and her son-in-law, Kevin Devison. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been predeceased by her six siblings, Chesley, Ernest, Olive, Margaret, Sadie and Eva.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Paul Hickey, staff of VON, Northside Homemakers and the staff of Northside General Hospital who took such great care of our mother. 

Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, in the funeral home chapel and will be live streamed on the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home Facebook page. Covid-19 restrictions will be in place regarding the Proof of Vaccination status, Provincial photo ID and the wearing of masks. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
