It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of June Theresa MacLean-Smith of Bras d’Or on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at the age of 58, at Hospice Cape Breton, Membertou. She was born in Downsview, Ontario on June 18, 1967. June lived a life rooted in love, strength and devotion to those closest to her.

June is survived and will be lovingly remembered by her parents Vincent and Rose (Druggan) MacLean; her son Tyler (Brittany) Smith; her daughters Courtney (Logan) Smith and Chelsea (Tyler) Smith; her cherished grandchildren, Billie, Davi, and Baby Smith who is on the way; her brother, Vincent MacLean, and her sisters, Monica (Bernie) Callaghan and Rose Marie Legere.

June was predeceased by her sisters Cheryl Harbin and Michelle MacLean.

June was a truly beautiful soul who shared a deep love for her family and her animals. She cared endlessly for others and carried a quiet strength, never giving up on what she believed in. That strength will live on through her children, grandchildren, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.

In her later years, she found great joy in watching her grandchildren grow, becoming one of their greatest teachers and supporters. She is now reunited with her beloved dog, Oland, whom she missed dearly. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will live on forever.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Hospice team in Membertou. Their kindness, compassion and the care they showed to our mom meant more to us than words can express.

A funeral service will take place on Friday, March 27 at 2 pm at the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney with Deacon David Lewis officiating. Following the funeral service all are invited to attend a reception held at Bras d’Or Hall at 24 Villa Drive, Little Bras d’Or.
