It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear sister and aunt, Karen Rosemary MacNeil, age 61, on Monday, April 25, 2022 at the MacGillivary Guest Home in Sydney.

Born in Halifax on October 9, 1960, she was the daughter of the late John C. and Shirley (Merlin) MacNeil. She was a member of St. Joseph Church in North Sydney. Karen adored her family and took great pride introducing them to all the staff at MacGillivary. In her earlier years she took much delight in dancing at family weddings and parties. She enjoyed the simple pleasures; going out for a drive and of course, a treat at the end and dining out in restaurants.

Karen loved shopping for clothing and getting all dressed up. She appreciated all the attention by the staff from getting her hair, makeup and nails done.  She especially enjoyed drinking her favorite beverage Pepsi daily. Karen was friendly by nature and treasured all the friendships she made with the whole team at MacGillivary.

She is survived by her siblings; Donna (Joe) McNeil, Comox, BC, Blair, North Sydney, Kevin,  John (Debbie), both in Fort McMurray AB, Judith Boutilier, North Bay, ON, Mary MacNeil, Truro, Natalie (Anthony) Marcucci, Barrie, ON, Allen, Sydney, Shaun (Mary), Little Bras d’Or. Also surviving are her many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents John and Shirley, and her brother Wayne.

The family would like to thank the staff of MacGillvary Guest Home for their compassion and care given to Karen during her time there. Many thanks to Dr. Peter Poulos and nurse Julia Penny of Palliative Care.

There will be no visitation. A funeral mass for Karen will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev. Angus MacDougall officiating. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. Memorial donations may be given to a charity of choice.
