Karen Ann Taylor
Grove's Point
It is with profound sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Karen Ann Taylor, age 57, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Sydney Mines on April 24, 1966, she was the daughter of the late George and Audrey (King) Ferguson. Karen was exceptionally caring and kind-hearted, with quick wit and a great sense of humour. She had a deep appreciation for community and always made time to lend a helping hand. When walking through the doors of the North Sydney OK Tire, it was Karen’s infectious smile and laugh that greeted you. She adored every person that stopped in for an appointment, a visit, or to give her beloved dog Clarke a special treat.
Karen’s devotion to her family was like no other. She was exceptionally blessed in all the ways that mattered and we were all so blessed to know and love her. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and they will always remember trips to nanny’s “little hospital” where the cure was their favourite treats and beach days spent combing the shore for treasures. Karen had a zest for life that was unmatched. She was always planning a new home improvement or next big adventure with her high school sweetheart, Bill. He was always there to make every crazy little wish, dream, or adventure she had come true. She has touched hearts all over the world.
She is survived by her husband and love of her life, Bill; her son Shawn (Emma) Taylor; her daughter Ashley (Christopher) Nunn; her four grandchildren Olivia, Jameson, Theodore, and Eloise; her sisters Nancy (Brian) O’Toole and Denise Newell; her brothers-in-law Roger (Sherry) Taylor and Ricky Taylor, her sisters-in-law Mora (David) Stewart and Sandra Taylor; nieces and nephews Stephen, David, Justin, Jessica and Lindsey Taylor, Taylor Stewart, Ryan and Lauren Readman. Besides her parents George and Audrey, she was also predeceased by her brother-in-law Greg Taylor.
A special thank you to all our friends and family that have been so supportive during Karen’s brief battle with cancer. And thank you to the palliative care nurses and VON for their care.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass for Karen will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 28, 2023 at St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or with Rev. Chinonso Alaribe officiating. A reception and celebration of life will follow at the John J. Nugent Firemen's Centre in Sydney Mines. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Online condolences may be left for the family by writing on the tribute wall of the obituary page at www.wjdooley.com.
To honour her immensely kind-hearted nature, the family asks for donations be made to the Palliative Care Unit or the Patient Care Fund at Cape Breton Regional Hospital in memory of Karen Taylor.
“I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, as long as I’m living my mommy you’ll be.”
