Lawrence Long Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lawrence Long, age 83, on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Born in Great Jervais, Newfoundland on August 5, 1942. He was the son of the late Lawrence and Lucy (Collier) Long.

Lawrence is survived by his son; Bill (Tanya) Long: brothers; Garfield (Louise) Long, Gerald (Sharon) Long, George (Elaine) Long, Simon (Mary) Long, Bernard (Cecilia) Long, Paul Long and Kenny (Susan) Long: sisters; Mary (Alex) Campbell, Phyillis (Steven) Clarke, Carrie Boutlilier, Christine (Melvin) Devoe, Betty (Sheldon) Burton and Louise (Al) Donnelly: grand-children; Gerald William Long and Joshua Lawrence Long: great-grandchildren; Jersey, Harrison and Lennon. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents He was predeceased by his first wife Blanche (Billy’s mom), and his second wife Judith. Brother; Eric Long, sisters; Roseleen Collier and Mabel Scott; sisters-in-law; Glenda and Jane Long; brothers-in-law; Tom Boutlilier, Conrad Scott, Tom Collier and nephew Chad Smith.

Lawrence spent 25 years as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces. He began as a member of the Black Watch Regiment and then finished his military career with the Royal Canadian Regiment (RCR). He had spent time with the Canadian Forces in Germany and Cypres. After his military career he worked for 12 years with Brinks and then officially retired from working at the age of 55. Lawrence loved his family and had a deep connection with his mother Lucy. He and his wife, Judith would often go for long drives to PEI and other places. He will be missed but never forgotten.

A Graveside Service will be held in the Spring with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. Arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J.
