It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lawrence Steven Swan, age 70, on Friday October 18, 2024, surrounded by his family at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in North Sydney on February 11, 1954, Lawrence was the son of the late Stephen and Mary (Roberts) Swan. Lawrence worked for many years as a coal miner at Prince Colliery in Point Aconi and later in the fishing industry. He was a very sociable person and was known by many. He loved to go for his daily walks. He had a passion for fishing. Lawrence had a great devotion to his favorite Toronto sports teams, the Maple Leafs and the Blue Jays. He will be missed by his family and his many friends from Beacon Cresent seniors apartments. Lawrence is survived by Donna (MacTaggart) Swan, his ex-wife and the mother of his children. Also left to mourn are his children; Donnie (Jennifer) Swan, Keith (Kim) Swan, Jonathan (Megan) Swan, Vanessa (Matthew) Swan, Stephanie (Kathleen) Swan; his siblings Marilyn Connelly, Nancy Swan, Diane (Bill) Brown. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Besides his parents, Lawrence was predeceased by his sister Velvet Cousins. A visitation will be held from 1 to 3 pm Wednesday, October 23 in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service will follow at 3 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel. Burial to take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, Little Bras d’Or. Donations can be made in Lawrence’s memory to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
