Leona Joyce (Piercey) Reid

With saddened hearts, we announce the sudden passing of our mother, spouse, grandmother, sister, and friend, Leona Joyce Reid of North Sydney, on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

Leona was born on June 22, 1955, in Whitbourne, Newfoundland. She was the daughter of the late Minnie and Bill Piercey of North Sydney.

Besides her parents, Leona was predeceased by her husband, Austin Reid; by her son, Joey Reid; her parents-in-law Theresa and Austin Reid; her brothers-in-law Terry and Ray Reid; and by her sister-in-law Gerilyn Reid.

Leona is survived by her partner of 34 years, Bob Campbell, and her much-loved children - son Billy (Lisa); daughter Andrea (Cameron Bigley); and daughter-in-law Jennifer; her sisters Rhoda Hurd (Gerard), Audrey Bryden (Roddy), and Chrissie Caume (Eric); her grandchildren Alexandra, Austin, Ethan, and Josh; Bob’s family - mother Paula Campbell, sisters Denise, Karen, Paula and Pam; In-laws Darren (Maureen), Ronnie (Jeannie), Joan (Roland); by those who loved Leona as a second Mom – Ally, Hannah, and Alyssa. Leona also leaves behind best friend Tina Richardson (Albert Hurley), many nieces, nephews, cousins and her special pets Coco, Nugget, and Daisy. Leona loved all her special pets throughout the years.

After many years working in the fish plants of North Sydney, Leona returned to school to become a CCA and then spent the last 20 plus years of her working life at Northside Community Guest Home, where she was loved by both residents and staff. The family wish to thank the Paramedics for their compassionate service.

A funeral service for Leona will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, October 1, 2025, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney, with burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice. Online condolences may be left for the family on the tribute wall of the obituary.
