Lloyd Grant Obituary

Lloyd A. Grant

Boularderie Centre, NS

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, Lloyd Alexander Grant, age 88, on Sunday May 10, 2020 at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.

Born in Boularderie Centre, November 10, 1931, Lloyd was the son of the late W.D. and Mary (Carmichael) Grant. He lived his entire life in Boularderie Centre, spending his younger years running the Ferry Store at Ross Ferry, then later with his brother Robert, operating Grant’s General Store in Boularderie Centre until its closure in 2008. Lloyd was a faithful elder of Knox Presbyterian Church, Ross Ferry for 59 years.

He was a much loved and respected school bus driver for the Northside Victoria School Board for 36 years. He loved every minute and every mile he drove. He also loved all of the students as much as they loved him. To say Lloyd has a green thumb is an understatement, his flower and vegetable gardens were his happy place. But what brought him the greatest joy was having all of his children back home together sharing a meal around the table. He awaited their visits home eagerly after they moved away.

Every season was a fresh start and new hope for his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs. A highlight of his life was attending a Leafs game at the Bell Centre against Montreal, followed by a visit to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto and a trip to see Niagara Falls. Lloyd had a very mischievous sense of humour, so if you had the pleasure of knowing him you were on the receiving end of that humour, at one time or another.

Lloyd is survived by his wife of 57 years, the love of his life, Katherine (Taylor) Grant, his beloved children Cynthia (Billy Joe) Robinson, Ingonish, Calvin Grant, St. Hubert, Quebec, Donna Grant, Kitchener, Barry Grant, Windsor, Ontario, sisters Mildred (Cyril) MacLean, Edwardsville, Betty Grant, St Lambert, Quebec, sisters-in-law Barbara (Lorne) Redmond, brothers-in-law Bill (Barb) Taylor, George (Cathy) Taylor, Lloyd Morrison, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents Lloyd was predeceased by his brother Robert Grant, sisters-in-law Sarah Morrison, Shirley Grant, brother-in-law, Jim Taylor and a niece Marie.

His family and community will miss him dearly. Lloyd, Dad you can never be replaced. Well done thy good and faithful servant.

The family wants to thank the nurses and Doctors of the Cape Breton Regional and Northside General Hospitals for Lloyd's excellent care. To Dr. Paul Hickey for the years of care. To the Victoria County Home Care support for making it possible to care for Lloyd at home. The girls he considered his Angels.  The VON, our regular Marlene MacIntosh for your guidance and friendship.  To Charlene and Brenda Grant, Isabel Hawley and Marilyn MacKenna, our sincere thanks to you all and may God Bless you for all the wonderful work you do.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions a funeral service will be held at a later date at Knox Presbyterian Church, Ross Ferry. Memorial donations may be made to Knox Presbyterian Church, Ross Ferry or to a charity of choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.wjdooley.com.
