Lloyd MacDonald Obituary

Lloyd J. (Boo) MacDonald

North Sydney

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved brother, uncle, godfather and friend, Lloyd Joseph (BOO) MacDonald, age 62, on Sunday, May 31, 2020, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in North Sydney, N.S. on March 27,1958, Lloyd was the son of the late Lloyd and Susie (Bates) MacDonald. Lloyd always loved the simple things in life.  He was a member of Local 721 Operating Engineers and worked for Capstick’s Transport Inc. for close to 40 years.  He loved family get togethers, fiddle music and playing the spoons.  He loved diving and dancing; and was a great dancer. He liked going for drives or to the horse track with his brothers Alex and Paul and loved visiting his nephew, Stephen and dog Thunder.  Lloyd lived at home with his brother Austin and you could often see him hanging around the Ballast Grounds, Dooly’s parking lot, or talking with the girls at Brewer’s Convenience.

Lloyd is survived by his siblings, Paul (Patti), Sydney Mines, Alex, Mill Creek, Austin, North Sydney, Sandra (Emmie), North Sydney, Jean (Robert) Donovan, Sydney Mines; his nieces and nephews, Geoffrey, Brett, Joshua, Kristen (Brooklyn & Bennet), Alexandra, Loren, Katelyn, Stephen, aunts Theresa (Bates) MacDonald, Eileen (Bates) Boutilier, Willimena Bates, Iris Bates, Patricia MacDonald and Bernice Sampson.  He is also leaving behind a few special friends Tom MacDonald and Dylan and the rest of his MacDonald family, Sherry Lynn, Stephen Clark, Cheryl, Edgar Boyd, Kevin and Shirley MacDonald, and Wendy, Tommy and the Capstick family who treated him as their own.

Besides his parents, Lloyd and Susan (Bates) MacDonald, Lloyd was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Lorna MacDonald.

The family would also like to send a special thank you to Dr. John Kirkpatrick, North Sydney, for all the care he provided to Lloyd over the years; the staff, nurses and doctors in ICU2 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for all their compassion and care, given to the family and our brother.

Lloyd’s request was that there be no visitation.  A private family service will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. Memorial donations can be made to Canadian Cancer Society or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.wjdooley.com.
