Lloyd Roderick Morrison

It is with broken hearts that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of Lloyd Roderick Morrison, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at the Age of 88.

Born in Sydney Mines, Lloyd was the son of the late Angus (North River) and Dolly (MacKenzie) Morrison, Kempt Head.

For many years, Lloyd, along with his wife Janice, operated Morrison’s Greenhouses, providing beautiful flowers and plants for the many customers who came from all over.  Lloyd and Janice shared a passion for tending to the gardens on their own property.  He enjoyed keeping active, particularly hiking.  Lloyd was a member and Elder of St. John United Church, Big Bras d’Or.  Lloyd’s passion for oil painting led him to volunteer with the Art of Living program at the Cancer Centre in Sydney, introducing the wonderful world of art to the cancer patients, to aid in their treatment and recovery.  He loved helping others!

Lloyd is survived by his loving wife Janice (Lever), his son Fraser (Dawn Lynn), Halifax, his daughter Kelly Morrison, Red Deer, daughter-in-law Liza Morrison, Red Deer, his brother Ray (Margie), Glace Bay, and his sister Shirley Laing, Halifax.  He is also survived by his grandchildren Conner, Kyle, Jorja and Jerich.  Lloyd will be greatly missed by his golden retriever, and constant companion, Asher.

Besides his parents, Lloyd was predeceased by his son Andrew in 2020, his brother Jack, sister Peggy Patterson and his special brother-in-law Don Laing.

Visitation for Lloyd will be from 4-7 pm, Monday, September 2, 2024, at W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  A Funeral service will be held at 2 pm, Tuesday, September 3, at St. John United Church, Big Bras d’Or, with Diane Kempt officiating.  Burial will follow in Black Rock Cemetery, Black Rock.  Family flowers only.  Donations in Lloyd's memory can be made to St. John's United Church, Bras d'Or, or the Tom MacNeil Cancer Patient Fund.  Online condolences can be sent to the family by leaving a message on the tribute page of the obituary at www.wjdooley.com.
