Lois Catherine MacLean
We regret to announce the sudden passing of Lois Catherine (Livingstone) MacLean, North Sydney, on Saturday, October 24, 2020.
Lois was born in Houston, Texas, on January 23, 1934, the daughter of the late Alexander and Dorothy Louise (Smith) Livingstone. She came to Cape Breton at the age of 5 to be raised by her grandmother Bertha MacLeod.
In her younger years she worked as a secretary for Thompson Sutherland and later for Dr. L. Skinner.
Lois enjoyed skating, gardening, birdwatching and music. She was a talented musician and enjoyed playing the piano every day. She also enjoyed a game of crib and afternoon drives in the country.
Lois was a longstanding member of St. Giles Presbyterian Church, North Sydney, where she was a former member of the choir, singing alto and a member of the St. Giles Mixed Quartet.
Lois is survived by her husband of 63 years, George, son Scot (Lynn), daughters Lynn and Louise. She is also survived by three grandchildren Jeannine, Robin and Bhreagh and three great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by numerous aunts and uncles, and brother-in-law John MacLean.
As per her wishes there will be no visitation or funeral. A private committal service will be held at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made St. Giles Presbyterian Church, North Sydney.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
