It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Lorne Fahie, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend, on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at the age of 85.

Born in Sydney he was the son of the late William and Irene (Lexner) Fahie.

Lorne spent his working years on the waters of the Bras d’Or Lakes as a lobster fisherman and he passed his knowledge and skills on to his sons who now fish the same waters. Lorne liked to show a rough exterior, but for those of us who had the pleasure of truly knowing him, he was a kindhearted and loving man with an amazing sense of humour. In his younger years, Lorne loved to skate and was an avid wrestling fan. He also very much enjoyed spending time with his life-long friends Reid Timmons, Alison Young and Elmer Roper.

Lorne is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alice (Petite) Fahie; his two sons, Michael (Kim) Fahie, Big Bras d’Or, Colin (Heidi) Fahie, Black Rock; five grandchildren , Shannon, Devon, Mikela, Tristan and Nicholas; two great grandchildren, Madison and Kaleb and godson Lorne MacLeod.

Also surviving are his siblings Shirley (George) Walker, Willena MacLeod, and Irene Blanger.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Joan MacLean, sisters-in-law Margarite, Elaine and Nellie as well as brothers-in-law Carl, John, Frank, Raymond and Angus.

In keeping with Lorne’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private family gathering will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the food bank in Big Bras d’Or by contacting Keith Bain or the Big Bras d’Or Fire Hall by contacting Cindy Ferguson, treasurer for the Friends of the Big Bras d’Or Fire Hall.
