Lorraine Norma (Currie) Gouthro Obituary

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Lorraine Norma (Currie) Gouthro on May 14, 2026, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital at the age of 72.

Born on September 20, 1953, in Sydney, Lorraine was the daughter of the late Alexander and Eileen (Malcolm) Currie.

Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Lorraine spent much of her childhood growing up in the Ottawa Valley before returning home to Cape Breton in the early 1970s. In 1974, Lorraine married the love of her life, Thomas Gouthro, and together they built a beautiful life and home in Frenchvale. Lorraine was an active member of Saint Mary’s Parish, where she was well known for her kindness, generosity, and community spirit. Every Christmas season, she lovingly created gingerbread houses for the parish Christmas party while her husband Tom proudly played Santa Claus for the children.

In later years, Lorraine enjoyed spending time at the Frenchvale Seniors Club, where she loved playing cards, cooking, and baking. Baking and cooking were truly her passions, and nothing brought her more joy than feeding the people she loved.

For over 20 years, Lorraine worked at the Northern Yacht Club in North Sydney, where she made many lifelong friendships and shared countless laughs and memories. Before that, she worked various retail jobs throughout the years and was loved everywhere she worked for her warm personality, kindness, and sense of humour.

Above all else, Lorraine’s greatest joy in life was her family, especially her beloved grandsons, Mitchell and Ethan. She loved attending their hockey games, cheering them on, spending time with them, celebrating holidays together, and simply being their grandmother. The bond they shared was incredibly special, and they meant the world to her.

Lorraine will be remembered for her strength, loyalty, compassion, and the unconditional love she gave so freely to everyone around her. She leaves behind countless treasured memories that her family and friends will hold close forever. Forever loved and deeply missed.

Lorraine was a beloved mother and survived by her daughter Stacey Randall, cherished mother-in-law to Daniel, and proud grandmother to Mitchell and Ethan, who were the absolute light of her life. She is also survived by her brothers and sister: Terry, Bernie (Darlene), Joe (Claudette), Myrna (Stan), and Charlie (Kathleen), along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Lorraine was predeceased by her parents, husband, Thomas Gouthro; her brothers, Lauchie  and Ron; and her sisters, Edna (George) and Mary “Tiny”.
