It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother Louise Bernadette Ivey, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the age of 80 at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in North Sydney on April 23, 1945, Louise was the daughter of the late William and Bernadette (Smith) Skinner. Louise worked for many years with the CBV Regional School Board as a lunch lady and a cleaner. She was a proud and faithful member of St. Joseph Church in North Sydney, where she was a lifetime member of the CWL and rarely missed an opportunity to attend mass. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Northside Foodbank. She loved going for walks, especially with her twin sister, Marie (who passed away in 2024), and her cherished dog, Slippers. Most important to her was her home and her family.
Louise is survived by her children – William “Bill” (Linda), Darren, Pamela (Peter) Whittle, and Tracey MacAulay; daughter-in-law, Nancy Ivey; grandchildren – William “Little Bill,” Jessica, Steven, Katelyn, John Ross, Michael Brian, Rebecca, Kenzie Ann, and Morgan Lynn; great-grandchildren – Sadie, Macie, Lane, Layla, Lexi, Teigan, Josephine, as well as one more on the way; siblings – Patricia (Bud) McGean, Joe, Lorne (Linda).
Besides her parents, Louise was predeceased by her husband, William; her son, Kenneth “Ken;” siblings – twin sister Marie Power, Harold, and Jack.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the doctors and nurses of floors 2 west and 4 west of the Northside General Hospital for their attentive care of Mom over the last few months.
Your gentle spirit and beautiful smile will live on in all of us. Love you forever Mom.
A funeral mass will be held for Louise at 2pm on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at St. Joseph Church in North Sydney with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating. Committal will immediately follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The mass will be live-streamed on the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home Facebook page. Online condolences can be left for the family by writing on the tribute wall of the obituary page.
