Margaret E. Almon

North Sydney

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Margaret Emma (McIntyre) Almon, age 93, on Sunday, February 12, 2023 at the Northside Community Guest Home with her loving family by her side.

Margaret was born in Florence on May 21, 1929, but lived most of her life in Georges River.  She was the daughter of the late Samuel and Angelina (Hosking) McIntyre.  Margaret lived and worked for a period of time in Toronto before returning back home to Cape Breton.  She was a devout member of St. Joseph Church in Bras d’Or.  Margaret enjoyed spending time with family and friends and always had time for a cup of tea with visitors. She loved baking and making homemade bread and was a hard worker all of her life.

She is survived by her children, her three sons Gene (Michelle), Frank (Michelle) and Jerome (Gerard), her three daughters Mary Elizabeth Almon, Laura Almon (Jack) and Jenny (John) Parks; her 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; her sisters Anne Almon, Bernadette (Danny) Finney, her brother Tom McIntyre, many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Frank Almon, her son Billy (Hank) Almon, grandson James MacTaggart, son-in-law Gerard MacTaggart, brothers Sammy, Louis, Harry and Elmer McIntyre; sisters Mary Almon, Angeline Johnston; sisters-in-law Jean McIntyre and Bernice McIntyre; brothers-in-law Bill Almon, Louis Almon, Chalmers Johnston.

Thank you to the staff of Teresa Terrace at the Northside Guest Home and the Cape Breton County Homemakers prior to Mom’s stay at the Guest Home.  Thank you to Dr. Patrick O’Grady for the care given to mom over the years.
