It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Margaret Elizabeth (MacKenzie) Keeping, age 70, on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Born in North Sydney on April 10, 1952, she was the daughter of the late John and Emmaline (Slade) MacKenzie.  Margaret was a member of the Salvation Army where she was involved with the Community Outreach program, and enjoyed making home visits to many seniors.  She was a member of the North Sydney Senior Citizen & Pensioners Club.   Margaret loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. 

She is survived by her loving husband and best friend Cyril Otto Keeping, son Cyril Keeping Jr., grandchildren Leah Isadore, Brett Brown and Caitlyn Keeping, daughter-in-law Kimberly Keeping, grandchildren MacKenzie, Peyton and Kylie Keeping.  Also survived by her siblings Glenda Leroy, Sherry Lang, Lisa Robertson, Sheldon and Ray Leroy.

Predeceased by her mother Emmaline Slade MacKenzie Leroy, father John Daniel MacKenzie and step father Donald Leroy Sr., by her sons; Wayne and Jamie Keeping, brother Jimmy MacKenzie, step siblings Donny, Jackie, Lynn (Howell), Robert (Darryl) Leroy, along with her extended family.

Visitation for Margaret will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Sunday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday in the Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Retired Majors’ Rocky and Janice Bishop of the Salvation Army along with Lieutenants’ Deon and Janelle Durdle.  Memorial donations may be made to the family.  Online condolences may be sent to the family by leaving a message on the tribute wall of the obituary at www.wjdooley.com
