Margaret Graham (Carruthers) Marks

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Graham Marks on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at the Northside Community Guest Home in North Sydney at the age of 92.5 years. Born in Sydney Mines on April 18, 1932, Margaret was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ellen (Dickson) Carruthers.

Margaret was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.  As it was “back in the day,” Mom was a stay-at-home mother. She was a phenomenal cook and baker. Her homemade bread was unsurpassed, and her turkey soup could cure anything. Margaret loved spending time at “the cabin” in Kempt Head with family whenever she could.

Margaret is survived by her children Brenda Marks Rymes, Dianne Ferguson, and Christopher (Nancy); daughter-in-law Darlene, as well as eight grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Along with her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Walter James Marks, her son Paul, brothers Richard and George, and sisters Helen and Jean.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Joseph Hall wing of the Northside Guest Home for their loving care provided to our mom. The family encourages anyone wishing to make a donation to do so to the Northside Community Guest Home.

As per Margaret’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral. Internment will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 12, at Lakeside Cemetery, Johnston Rd, North Sydney, with Rev Corrie Stewart officiating.
