Margaret Marple Obituary

It is with heartfelt sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, Margaret Marple, on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at the age of 85.

Born in North Sydney on November 10, 1939, Margaret was the daughter of the late Frederick and Caroline (Plank) Clark.

Mom was well known for having worked at the former People’s Store in North Sydney for 28 years. Mom cherished her family dearly, but when she received the title of Nanny, her world could not have been any better. She was a lady of many talents, such as knitting, crocheting and quilting, just to name a few.  She also loved gardening and baking. Mom was a long-time member of the Northside Baptist Church.

Mom leaves behind her daughters Mary Marple (Tom Cholock), Carolyn Robinson and Beverly MacAulay; grandchildren Shannon MacAulay, Jennifer Horwood (Robbie), Jonathan Robinson, Hanna Orrell (Bryden), Emma MacDonald and Graham MacDonald (Kate); great-grandchildren Alexavier Doucette, Michael Coapage, Claire Horwood and Holly Orrell.  She is also survived by brothers-in-law Al Crowe and Bill Ross, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her husband Earl Marple; her precious great-granddaughter Cecily MacDonald; sisters Laura Clark, Jean Clark and Elizabeth “Betty” Crowe; brothers William “Bill” (Betty), (Nancy), Gordon “Vince” (Ruth), Howard (Eileen) and Paul Clark.  She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.  She was also predeceased by brothers-in-law Lewis, Howard and Clarence Marple; sisters-in-law Jessie, Kathleen, Myrtle, Margarite, Eughla and Rita; dearest friends Doris Carmichael and Shirley Gallop.

The family would like to thank the Victoria County Home Support Workers, VON, EHS, the ER staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Dr. Fuller, Dr, Bonnar and Dr. Patrick O’Grady.

Also, a special thank you to daughter Carolyn, and granddaughter Emma for their care and support, and to Mary, whom mom lived with for the last 6 years.

A visitation for Margaret will take place from 1-3 pm, Tuesday, September 2, at the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Jason Homan officiating.  Following the service, burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.

The family ask that memorial donations in Margaret’s name may be made to the Northside Baptist Church. Online condolences can be left for the family on the tribute wall of the obituary.
