Margaret "Peggy" MacIsaac Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Margaret Louise MacIsaac, aged 93, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend on Sunday, September 28, 2025 at Hospice Cape Breton, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in North Sydney, on September 4, 1932, Peggy was the daughter of the late Gordon and Bridget (Audoux) Maxwell. Peggy was employed at Stedman’s in North Sydney until she became a full-time stay-at-home mom. She was a member of St. Joseph Church in North Sydney as well as a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Branch 19 of the Royal Canadian Legion and a member of the Pensioners Club. She was an avid bowler, dart and bingo player and she loved to play cards with her family. She also loved to dance with Dad.

Peggy is survived by her sons – Allister, Martin (Tracy), and Darrell (Leona); daughters – Diane (Lloyd) Gillis, Maureen (David) Devoe, Cecilia (Willis) Ayres, Sharon (Eric) MacLeod, along with special daughter, Jo Ann (Bruce) Covey of Ontario; son-in-law, Wayne King of New Glasgow and daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Burt. She will be extremely missed by her loving grandchildren – Dwayne, Christa, Brian, Wayne, Natalie, Steven, Adam, Justin, Natasha, Nathan, Jason, Jeffery, Terrilyn, Lloyd, Trevor, Tyrone, Danielle, Blaize, Alisha, Ryan, Megan, Callum, Carly, and Grace, along with 29 great-grandchildren, all of whom loved their “Little Nanny.” She is further survived by her brother, Jack Maxwell, and sister-in-law Colleen Maxwell, both of Ontario; many nieces and nephews, especially nieces Donalda, Lori, and Donna, along with godson Rob and grandchildren Christa and Jason (Tammy) who have been with the family through such a difficult time. She is also survived by family friend, Dave Seaward.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Martin, her son, Roddie; daughter, Martina King of New Glasgow; daughter-in-law, Edith MacIsaac; brothers Sonny, Daniel and Robert (Ann); sisters Janet (John) Snow, Wilma (Russell) Crews, Jean (Jim) Ivey, as well as a sister in infancy, Lorrette Rose; her dear sisters-in-law, Mildred “Mill” MacIsaac and Ray Maxwell, along with many other in-laws.

Special thanks are extended to Dr. William MacDonald for his years of care for Peggy, as well as to all of the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Palliative Care, Hospice Cape Breton and the VON. Your kindness and care through this difficult time was greatly appreciated.

Our mom was an amazing lady who was involved in everything we ever did in our lives. Even when we were all so sad at the end, she was the one to make us all laugh.

“We will cherish our memories of you forever and we will love you until the end of time. Good bye, dear mother.”
