Marguerite Travers
Southside Boularderie
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Marguerite Travers, age 81, on Friday, September 3, 2021, at the Northside Community Guest Home.
Born in North Sydney on July 19, 1940, Marguerite was the daughter of the late Albert and Frances (Dooley) Lionais. She worked for many years as an X-ray technician, beginning her career in North Sydney before moving to Halifax and eventually Toronto and New Market, Ontario, where she met her husband John, and where together they would live and raise their three children. Marguerite and John would eventually retire to Cape Breton where they resided for many years in Southside Boularderie.
She is survived by her husband, John; her three sons Joseph (Tracy), Toronto, Robert (Kelly), Mount Albert, Ont., and Thomas (Tanya), Squamish, BC; her four grandchildren Madeline, Allison, Ashlyn, and Hudson; her three sisters Marilyn Turner, Halifax, Irene (Colin) MacArthur, South Bar, Marie (Glen) Sentner, Eastern Passage; her three brothers Charles “Chuck” (Sally) Lionais, Ottawa, David (Rosalie) Lionais, Sydney River, Gerard (Catherine) Lionais, Groves Point; her sister-in-law Elaine Borotra, St. Pierre et Miquelon; she is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Marguerite was predeceased by her sister, Anne Frances Lionais; brothers-in-law – Eugenie Borotra and Wallace Turner; sister-in-law Denise (Lamontaigne) Lionais, along with nephew Jamie Turner.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr Poulos for his dedicated service over the years as well as the staff of Teresa Terrace at the Northside Guest home for all of their excellent care.
A private funeral mass for Marguerite will be celebrated at St. Joachim Church in Southside Boularderie under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Memorial Donations may be made to the North Sydney Food Bank, the Northside Guest Home, or a charity of one’s choice.
