Marie ‘Cutie” “Buffy” Buffett, devoted wife, cherished mother, and dedicated nurse, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 9, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born in North Sydney on March 23, 1937, Marie was the daughter of the late Angus and Eugenia (Lockman) Morrison. Marie’s nurturing spirit was evident from an early age. She pursued a career in nursing with the same passion she applied to every aspect of her life. A graduate of St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing, Marie worked at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital for several years, where she earned the respect and admiration of colleagues and patients alike. In 1969, Marie made the heartfelt decision to leave her nursing career to focus on raising her three beloved children. Her nurturing instincts extended beyond the hospital, as she poured her love and energy into creating a warm and supportive home for her family. Being widowed at an early age, her children remember her as a pillar of strength, a source of unwavering support, and a guiding light in their lives. In 1980, her commitment to nursing returned her to her profession as a nurse at the Northside Community Guest Home where she worked until her retirement in 2002. Her gentle demeanor and empathetic care were a beacon of comfort to those in need, and her commitment to nursing was a testament to her deep compassion for others. As a grandmother, she embraced her role with unparalleled devotion. Marie played an integral role in the lives of her grandchildren, providing them with boundless love and encouragement. Marie was a steadfast presence at school events, cheering from the sidelines at sports games and celebrating every academic achievement. Her pride in her grandchildren’s accomplishments was matched only by her belief in their potential. She was their biggest supporter and their most enthusiastic fan, always ready with words of encouragement and a comforting embrace. They will truly miss her. Marie is survived by her children David (Kathy) Buffett, Lisa (Kevin) MacLean, and Les (Laura) Buffett, and her cherished grandchildren Nicholas (Madeline Marinelli), Bradley (Jessie Beddow). Kailey, Luke, Mya and Isabelle, her nieces and nephews Anne Marie Newman, Roland Morrison, Chris Morrison, Cyril MacDonald, Betty Pinto, Steven Buffett, Nancy McCormack, Sharon Cox, Cathy Thornley, Saira Mohan, Colleen, Mark, and Trevor Buffett. She is also survived by her sister- in-law Georgina Mohan (Harish) and brother-in-law Ernest Buffett (Edith). Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Roland Buffett, also by her siblings Patricia MacDonald and Angus, William, and Jean Morrison, sisters and brothers-in-law Cyril MacDonald, William and Joan Buffett. Visitation for Marie will be held from 12-2 p.m. on Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
