Marion "Mamie" Johnstone Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, on Thursday, February 27, 2025. We will miss her dearly; we are comforted in knowing that she is home with her Lord and Saviour. Born in North Sydney July 21, 1933, to the late J.W. Mulley and Marion (Harnem) Mulley.

Mom loved her Lord and Savior and was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she was actively involved with the Women’s Missionary Society and all aspects of her Church. Besides church she was active in her community. A long-time worker at the Cape Breton Exhibition, you could find her looking after the home crafts and gardening exhibits, as well as in the show ring passing out ribbons to the cattle and sheep competitors.

Mamie was a lifelong member of the North Sydney Garden Club. She and Dad loved to travel and spent many springs in Florida with friends.

Mom is survived by her daughter, Karen (Ernest) Wiesner, son Lloyd (Elaine) Johnstone, and daughter-in-law Susan Johnstone. She is also survived by her seven grandsons, whom she dearly loved; Jeff (Kirsten) Johnstone and their children Faith and Joshua; Scott (Elizabeth) Johnstone and their children Sydney, William and Grace; Kenneth (Lindsay) Burt and their children Stevie Rae, Georgie and K C; Stephen Burt and son Thomas; Benjamin, Jonathan, and Peter Johnstone. Mom was happy when surrounded by her grand and great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her brothers John R. Mulley, Wayne (Sheila) Mulley and brother-in-law Earl Johnstone. She had many nieces and nephews, and was especially close to her niece Dorothy Ross, who was like a sister.

In addition to her parents, Mom was predeceased by her husband Roy, her son Stewart and son-in-law Tom Burt. She was also predeceased by her siblings Minnie, Murdock, Leonard, Angus, William, Ina Mae, Susan, Wesley and Madeline.

The family would like to extend a sincere thanks to the EMTs, the ER Department and the nursing staff and doctors on the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Special thank you to family doctor, Dr. Stephanie Langley.

Donations in memory of Mamie Johnstone may be made to Calvary Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
