It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of Mary Agnes Bonnell, age 64, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a brief illness. 

Born in North Sydney on December 8, 1955, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Agnes (Nicholson) Morrison.  Mary was a member of St. Joseph Church in North Sydney and was a Girl Guide leader for many years.  She worked for a number of years at Ingraham’s United and then later at Zellers and recently as a sitter with patients in two local hospitals.  She enjoyed bird watching, sewing, knitting and was a crafter.

She is survived by her husband Lewis, her daughter Christine (John) Bonnell-Eisnor, Halifax, her son Brian (Melissa), Sydney, her four grandchildren Grace, Ian, Tristan and Abigale, her siblings Alex (Elizabeth) Morrison, Cornwallis, Peter (Evelyn) Morrison, Kelowna, Paul (Susan) Morrison, Sydney, Alan Morrison, Toronto; also surviving are brothers-in-law Lloyd Lane, Bowden,  Gordon Blaikie, Truro, Claude (Phyllis) Bonnell, Middleton, Derrick (Shirley) Bonnell, Sydney, Melvin (Ann) Bonnell, Abbotsford, Art (Vicky) Bonnell, Regina, Ray (Elayne) Bonnell, Ottawa, sisters-in-law Judy Bonnell Halifax, Millie (Lorne) Jennex, Leitches Creek, many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by two unborn children, sisters Mildred and Dorothy, brother Ronnie, brother-in-law Howard Bonnell, sisters-in-law Judy Bonnell and Shirley Morrison.

Thank you to the staff of 4D at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the care and compassion shown to Mary.

There will be no visitation.  A funeral mass for Mary will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Sydney River with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating.  Due to Covid-19 restrictions there will be limited seating.  Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. 

Memorial donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Lung Association or a charity of choice.
