It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Louise Gushard, age 83,

beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt, on Monday, March 23, 2020 at the Northside General Hospital.

Born in Inverness on April 11, 1936, Mary was the daughter of the late Angus and Elva (Murray) MacDonald. She was a member of the North Sydney Senior Citizens and Pensioners Club, where she enjoyed playing cards and a game of cribbage at the North Sydney Fire Hall. Mary also enjoyed spending time fishing, hunting and owning horses for harness racing, with her longtime companion Sam Clarke.

Mary is survived by her son William Roy Gushard, daughters Rose (Doug) MacKinnon, Balls Creek, Elizabeth (Ed) Skinner, North Sydney, Theresa (Ivan) Nickerson, Point Edward, by her grandchildren Roseanne (Gerard) Fraser, Natacha Leroy, Sandra (Craig) Reed, John D. MacKinnon, Troy (Tania) Skinner, Tanya (Gordon) Spencer, Bradley MacKinnon, Jodi (Christine) MacKinnon, Kyle Gushard and Jamie Gushard, twenty great-grandchildren, her sisters Rachel and Kay, brother Angus, nieces and nephews.

Mary was predeceased by her companion of 45 years Samuel Clarke in 2015, brothers Jimmy and Michael, sister Theresa.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nursing staff of 5 East at the Northside General Hospital, especially those who went above and beyond, for the excellent care given to our Mom.

Visitation for Mary will be held in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney, at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus, North Sydney or to a charity of choice. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.wjdooley.com .
