It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend, Mary Dolores Long on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at the Northside General Hospital.

Born in Bras d’Or, Mary was the daughter of the late Martin and Anne (Cottrell) Christie. Mary spent many years working as a sales clerk for the Irving Service Station convenience store.

Mary is survived by her son Eric (Jennifer), Sydney Mines; daughters Carrie (Greg) MacRitchie, Sydney, Heather (Cliff) Andrews, Hammonds Plains, Helen Long, Amherst; grandchildren Erica, Lily, Camden, Brendan and Kristen as well as step grandsons Aaron and Koady Young. She is further survived by many sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her sisters, Maureen and Maudine; her brother Glen; the father of her children, Eric Long; her partner, Bernard Amey.  

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the VON, Homecare, the doctors and nurses on 5 East of the Northside General Hospital, the doctors and nurses of the Cancer Center as well as the Palliative Care Unit, especially Julia for her many visits.

There will be a graveside service for Mary at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney, on Friday, September 30, at 2:00pm, with Deacon Dave Lewis officiating. Online condolences can be left for the family by writing on the tribute wall of the obituary page at www.wjdooley.com.
