Mary MacIntyre Obituary

Mary Marguerite MacIntyre

North Sydney

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mary MacIntyre. On Friday, August 30, 2019, after battling cancer, Mary passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family and companion.

Mary was born October 19, 1944 in Kentville, Nova Scotia to the late Clarence and Justine (Shay) Walsh. She is predeceased by her husband, Danny MacIntyre, her son, Alfred Daniel MacIntyre, her daughter, Yvonne Donovan, her special brother, Clarence Walsh and her sister, Elma Lettice. Mary is survived by her three daughters and two sons: Tina (Jimmy) Sullivan, Sydney Mines, NS; Eileen (Gerald) Best, Russell, MB; Danielle (Grant) Donovan, Halifax, NS; Donald MacIntyre, Sydney, NS; Clarence (Mary Lynn) MacIntyre, North Sydney, NS; and her four sisters and two brothers: Joan Cort, North Sydney, NS; Barbie Walsh, North Sydney, NS; Helen McGean, North Sydney, NS; Selina (Johnny) Harris, North Sydney, NS; Danny (Ruth) Walsh, North Sydney, NS; Ricky (Anne) Walsh, North Sydney, NS. She is also survived by her companion, Alex, and her 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews, all whom loved Mary dearly.

Mary loved to play cards with her sisters and five friends: Sheila, Audrey, Marlene, Hilda and Liz. She enjoyed talking on the phone and keeping up with the latest news of her family and friends. Mary was a woman of strong faith – the love she had for her family, friends and her community was admirable. Mary was always laughing and joking with those around her. As her time on Earth came to an end, she embraced death, and spoke of joining her loved ones in the afterlife. Mary is now one of God’s Angels in Heaven, watching over her remaining loved ones on Earth.

The family would like to thank Palliative Care, V.O.N. and Dr. Alexander Wawer, their help and support allowed Mary to fulfill her wish of dying at home; her granddaughter, Lynsey MacIntyre, and daughter-in-law, Mary Lynn MacIntyre, who took great care of her during her final days; her granddaughter, Jesslyn Best, who traveled from Winnipeg, MB; and her granddaughter, Tamika Hessian, who traveled from Yellowknife, NWT to allow Mary the opportunity to meet her youngest great-grandchildren.

The family would like to especially thank Mary’s granddaughter, Lisa Jessome. From the very beginning of Mary’s diagnosis, Lisa provided unwavering care and unconditional love and support. Lisa’s love, combined with her knowledge and expertise allowed Mary to remain comfortable at home until the very end.

On Monday, September 2, 2019, visitation, followed by a prayer service officiated by Rev. Doug MacDonald will be held from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm at W.J. Dooley Funeral Home in North Sydney. A luncheon will be provided from 4:30pm-6:30pm at 1 Beacon Crescent, North Sydney.
