It is with heartfelt sadness, that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Mary Diane McLaughlin, age 69, on Monday, December 4, 2023 at home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in New Waterford on July 29, 1954, she was the daughter of the late James and Gladys (Millie) Pasher.  Mary was a dedicated and strong mother who was devoted to her large family.  Her children, and later her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy and she loved spending time with them. She was always playing games, running us to sporting events, taking us camping, for beach days and for picnics. She was always joking and laughing. We would always have Sunday dinners as a family, accompanied by channel 3 Disney movies. She was a selfless mother who put her children above everything else. She will be forever missed by anyone who had the privilege to have known her. We know your dad was waiting for you with your molasses cookies.   

She is survived by her loving children, Lisa (Shane) Walsh, Janice, Diane (George), Jimmy (Charity), Kathy (Wes) Tanner, Elizabeth (Kevin) Pattengale, Mary (Steven) Hastie, Michael (Chelsea); her nineteen grandchildren and her six great-grandchildren; also surviving are her siblings Jim (Wilma), Joe (Linda), Rob, Glenn (Mary), Judy MacGibbon, Bruce (Tina), Keith (Susan), along with many nieces and nephews. Special mention to Sandy Stockford, a long-time friend who was more like a sister.

The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Murphy for all of his excellent care over the years.

Visitation for Mary will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Sunday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating.
