Mary Naddaf

It is with deep sadness that we announce Mary’s untimely death after a brief illness. She passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 10, 2020, shortly after her nephew, Michael, left her side at the Northside General Hospital. Michael was her faithful caregiver for over twenty years and also served as a companion to Mary and her cat, Lucky.

Mary (aka Kitten) was born and raised in North Sydney, and was the daughter of the late Joseph Naddaf and Labibi Mahanna who immigrated from Lebanon in the early 1900’s. Mary worked much of her life at the Ladies’ Wear division of her father’s business “Joseph Naddaf and Sons.”  In her later years, she worked as the Recreational Director at the Braemore Home in Sydney. Mary was well-known as “Little Rock” to her competitors in the curling field. She skipped her team to the Nova Scotia Championship in 1969, and then represented the province at the Nationals. In 2019 she was inducted in the Northside Sports Hall of Fame. Mary was also a competitive card player and loved to go to the racetrack.

She is survived by her nephews, Michael, Joe, Gerard, Kevin, Bradley and Robert, and nieces, Beverly, Janet, Maureen, Linda, Paula and Nancy.

Besides her parents she is predeceased by her brothers Abraham, James and Moses, and her sister Queenie.  Mary was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mary’s request was for a simple graveside service with family members. It will be held at the Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney where her mother, father and brothers are buried.  Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
