It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mervyn Alexander MacAulay, age 80, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend, on Thursday August 20, 2020 at his home in Millville.

Born in North Sydney, November 18, 1939, Mervyn was the son of the late Dan Allan and Annie Jane (MacLeod) MacAulay. He was employed with the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation for thirty years, working as an operator, dispatcher and inspector until his retirement. Later he worked for a number of years with Diversified Transportation Ltd in Fort McMurray. In younger years he enjoyed coaching minor hockey. Mervyn was as an Elder and member of the Board of Managers at St. James Presbyterian Church, Big Bras d’Or, he served as chairman and caretaker at Black Rock Cemetery.

Mervyn is survived by his wife Carol (MacDonald) MacAulay, children; Stewart (Marilyn) MacAulay, Wanda (Gus) Shave, both of Millville, Kenneth (Joanne) MacAulay, Halifax, Robert (Tanya) MacAulay, Sherwood Park, AB, Ann Margaret (Gerry) Bowen, Halifax, David (Margaret) MacAulay, Beamsville, ON, also surviving are his 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, sisters; Marjorie (Everett) Jeans, New Glasgow, Gladys (Roy) MacLean, New Hampshire, brother; Douglas (Donna) MacAulay, Mass, USA, by his mother-in-law Margaret MacLean, New Campbellton .

Besides his parents Mervyn was predeceased by his uncle Hughie MacLeod.

By request no visitation will be held, cremation has taken place. A funeral service will take place at St. James Presbyterian Church, Big Bras d’Or at a later date with burial to follow at Black Rock Cemetery. Memorial donations may be sent to St. James Presbyterian Church or Black Rock Cemetery Fund. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
