It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our brother, uncle and friend, Michael Maurice Jackman on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at the age of 73.

Born in North Sydney on October 9, 1949, he was the son of the late Maurice and Blanche (Duke) Jackman.  Michael graduated from Thompson High School, and in 1975 he trained as a residential counsellor at Huronia Regional Center in Orillia, ON.  In 1980, Michael took masonry training at Georgian College of Applied Arts & Technology, and in 1985 he trained as a practical nurse at the college.  Michael had a love for music and he spent countless hours playing guitar and singing.  He also enjoyed the outdoors while fishing and camping.  He felt great pride when he taught CPR for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. 

Michael worked in many areas of the country as a healthcare worker; in Ontario, Twillingate, NL, and eventually returning home to Cape Breton where he worked at Northside General Hospital (St. Elizabeth’s).  He transferred to Northside Harbourview Hospital for a time but eventually returned back to Northside General, retiring on November 9, 2010.

Michael is survived by his daughter Michelle, sisters Noella Jackman Bragg, Barbara (Mike) Dondon, brother Marcel (Elise Ratchford) and nieces and nephews.  Besides his parents, Michael was predeceased by his sister Mary Elizabeth.

There will be no visitation or service.  A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.  Arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J.
