Minnie Virtue (Rose) Piercey

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother Minnie Piercey on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at the age of 92.  Mom was surrounded by the love of her four daughters as she gently left this world.

Mom was a proud Newfoundlander, born in Salmon Cove, on June 1, 1933, to James and Clara Belle (Peckham) Rose.  After receiving her teacher’s degree in 1951, she taught school in Newfoundland for many years before moving to North Sydney, NS with her family. Mom was a devoted member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church.  She was an active member of her community involved with the LOBA Lodge, Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 19 and the Clifford Street Youth Centre to name a few.

Mom loved to travel and as president of the North Sydney Pensioners Club for over 20 years, she organized many events for her friends including trips to the Halifax Tattoo, or across the Gulf to Newfoundland. She was recognized in 2016 as Maritimer of the Week for her hard work and dedication. And, she was most proud when she was honored with “The Minnie Piercey Boardroom” in the new North Sydney Seniors Club for which she fought so hard

Minnie is survived by her four loving daughters Rhoda (Gerard) Hurd, Leona Reid (Bobby Campbell), Audrey (Roddy) Bryden, Chrissie (Eric) Caume; her grandchildren Michele (Chris Eavis), Pauline (James MacLeod), Jennifer Hurd (Cory), Billy (Lisa) Reid, Jennifer Reid, Andrea Reid (Cameron), Mallorie (James) Cunningham and Justin Caume; her great-grandchildren Jamie Marie, Sara Jane (Turner), Lily, Ethan, Josh, Alex, Austin, Brooklyn and Jersey. Also surviving are her sisters Bessie (Albert) Noel, Audrey Crowley, Edna (Allan) Lambert, Jocelyn (Dave) King; sisters-in-law Betty Piercey and Theresa Greeley, brothers-in-law Fletcher (Maribelle) and Nelson Piercey; many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends Dulcie Best, Betty Hillier, Margie Wells, Chuck Lewis, Rick & Donna Farrell.

Minnie was predeceased by her husband of 52 years Bill Piercey, son-in-law Austin Reid and her grandson Joey Reid; her brothers Cyril, Bram, Wilson and Ewart Rose, two sisters Blanche and Julie, brother-in-law Garfield Crowley, sisters-in-law Elsie (Charles) Bradbury, Pearl (Clayton) Smith, June (Alec) Pelley, Rose (Brent) Turner, Florence Piercey; brothers-in-law Alfred (Marie), Martin, Harry, Woodrow Piercey and her good friends Theresa Reid, Caroline Campbell and Doug Carter.

Visitation for Minnie will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.  A reception will follow the burial at the North Sydney Pensioners Club, Commercial Street, North Sydney.  Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Palliative Care or a charity of choice.  Online condolences may be sent to the family by leaving a message on the tribute wall of the obituary at www.wjdooley.com.
