Monica Beaton Obituary

Monica Ann Beaton, 73

Scotch Lake

With broken hearts, we announce the passing of Monica Ann (King) Beaton of Scotch Lake, on Saturday, November 13th, 2021 at the Northside General Hospital. Born in Bras d’Or on February 11th, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Mary Ida (Cantwell) King.

Monica was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and aunt. Mom’s favorite times were those shared with our family whom she dearly loved. Laughter and music filled our home. She enjoyed listening to music, attending concerts and going to dances with Dad. Mom loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. She was an incredible cook and baker who always offered every guest a meal, a hot cup of tea and a place to feel at home and have a great time. Her happiest times were spent entertaining family and friends.

Mom had a great sense of humor and enjoyed a good joke whether she was on the giving or the receiving end. She was incredibly proud as each of her grandchildren showed signs of inheriting her quick wit and goodnatured sarcasm. Mom was truly devoted to her grandchildren who were her pride and joy.  Many hours were passed playing Cribbage and Yahtzee with her husband and children. Although we were not raised to be competitive, she would insist that “good losers don’t make winners”.

Mom and Dad spent 52 years happily married, raising their four children and later adoring their seven grandchildren. Throughout the years, they enjoyed many adventures, laughs and stories. Mom taught us the meaning of being a great wife, mother, role model and friend.  So much can be said about Mom’s kindness and generosity. She cared deeply about people and would make sure those around her were never in need.

Mom will be profoundly missed by her loving husband, David Beaton, her three daughters, Stacey (Adrian) McGean, Coletta Beaton, Monique (Gordon) Buffett, and son Kyle (Michelle), her seven grandchildren, Nicholas, Colten, Chelsey, Jacob, Monica, Caleb and Isabella all living in Scotch Lake. She is also survived by her sisters Gloria Nicholson, Claudia (Earl) Warhus, Celesta Johnston, Miriam (Tom) Boudreau, her brothers Paul (Pat) King, Chicky (Linda) King, Kennedy (Julia) King, sisters-in-law Ann-Marie King, Cathy King, Sr. Mary Beaton, Sr. Elizabeth Beaton, closest friend Darlene Jessome and many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents, Monica is predeceased by her siblings Meleta, Gerard in infancy, Damian, Wayne, Audrey, Pius and Coletta, numerous in-laws and several nieces and nephews.

We the family would like to thank the nurses of 4 West at the Northside General Hospital for the kindness and compassion they showed Mom and our family.
