It is with deep sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Monica Rita Prosser, on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the age of 82.
Born in Marystown, NL, on May 22, 1943, Monica was the daughter of the late Timothy and Ada (Fewer) Ducey.
After moving to North Sydney, Monica met and married the love of her life, Max, and together they raised their four children. This year they joyfully celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. For over 25 years, Monica worked in Housekeeping at the Northside General Hospital, where she was known for her dedication and kindness. A long-time member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, Monica found joy in music and dancing, but her greatest happiness came from time spent with her family.
Monica will be lovingly remembered by her husband Maxwell, her daughters Karen (Jim) Murphy and Sherry (John) Fraser; her sons Duane (Lisa) and Jordan (Miranda); her cherished grandchildren Meaghan MacLean (Rodney), Bethany and Julia Kemp, Faith Nicholson (Josh), Jack Fraser, Layne MacPhee, Marley and Michael Prosser. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Wesley, Grant and Dale MacLean and Charlie Nicholson.
Monica is survived by her sisters Sheila Whittle (Edwin), Maureen Beazley (Robie), Yvonne Baker (Eric) and Rhonda Stanford (Paul); her brothers Timothy (Joan), Eugene (Gloria), Howard (Dorothy), Bill (Kim), Greg (Mary Ann), Marlon and Randy Ducey; sisters-in-law Donna MacDonald and Angela Ducey. She will also be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Besides her parents, Monica was predeceased by her brothers Frank, Adrian and Bernard; nephews Trevor Card, Lonny Ducey, Frank Ducey Jr., and brother-in-law Doug MacDonald.
The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Peter Poulos, as well as the doctors and nursing staff of the Emergency Department, 4B, 4C, IMCU and Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion. Deep appreciation is also extended to the staff at MacGillivary Guest Home for their kindness and support over the past year.
Visitation for Monica will be held from 1-3 pm, Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Debbie Fice officiating. Interment will take place at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. Donations in Monica’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Society. Online condolences may be shared with the family on the tribute wall of the obituary.
