Murdock Herridge Obituary

Murdock Herridge

North Sydney

It is with heavy hearts that we the family of Murdock Herridge, age 87, of North Sydney, announce his passing on September 9, 2021, at home surrounded by his family after a long and courageous battle with renal disease.

Dad was born in Pickering, Nfld on September 20, 1933 to George and Rebecca (Pickett) Herridge.

He came to North Sydney in 1947 where he met the true love of his life, Barbara Ann and where they settled to raise their family.

In his younger years he worked as a fisherman on the “Buddy Bob” with his father, until an accident prevented him from returning to work. He then became a stay at home dad which he absolutely loved.

He will be fondly remembered for his bottle collecting around North Sydney, his daily walks to Bens for his five loaves of bread, his love of cooking and feeding whoever dropped by and most of all, for the love he had for his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and siblings.

He will be greatly missed by his wife Barbara (Whitty) Herridge, his four sons, Robert (Debbie), Frenchvale; David (Lisa), Little Pond; Albert (Priscilla), North Sydney; Roger (Shannon), Sydney Mines; his two daughters, Bonnie (Jackie), North Sydney and “Daddy’s little girl” Nancy (D.J.), Alder Point. Also surviving are his 22 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, whom he loved dearly; four brothers, Clayton and Wilfred, both of Sydney Mines; Eb (Vange) and George, both of North Sydney and daughter-in-law Josephine Herridge.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his son Allan and sister Dorothy.

Murdock was a renal patient for the past six years and his body just became to tired to fight anymore.

We would like to thank Northside renal clinic and Dr. Hewlett for the love and compassion they have shown him over the years. The family would also like to thank Northside Homemakers, VON, Palliative Care and EHS for the many trips they made to his home.

Visitation for Murdock will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Doug MacDonald presiding. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Covid-19 protocol regarding the wearing of masks, social distancing and limited seating at the funeral home and church will be observed.
