Paul Gallop Obituary

Paul Gallop

Upper Leitches Creek

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Paul Roderick Gallop, age 63, our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend on December 30, 2022.

Born in North Sydney, Paul was the son of the late Fred and Nellie (Beaton) Gallop.  Paul is survived by his wife Sharon (MacCormick) Gallop, son Blair (Terra), Sydney and daughter Cynthia, Leitches Creek; by his brothers Fred (Caroline), Beaverbank and Brian (Susan), Ball’s Creek, and his Uncle Jack (Sandy), Ontario. Also surviving are Sharon’s siblings; Colleen (Don) Cameron, Shaun MacCormick, Brian (Johanna) MacCormick, Liam MacCormick (Darlene MacKenzie), Keith (Cheryl) MacCormick and Maureen MacCormick.  He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Paul was a kind and caring person with a great sense of humour.  He had the unique ability to relate to people of all ages. He would speak to anyone, telling stories and often had people laughing till their sides ached and tears filled their eyes. Paul loved the sunshine and enjoyed the outdoors; going for drives to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Cape Breton. He enjoyed feeding the birds and sharing garden produce with his young neighbours. Campfires were his favorite, conversing with those gathered and telling tall tales. Cape Breton fiddle music, Donnie Campbell’s Celtic Serenade and country music were always on the radio with Paul tapping his foot and signing along.

Paul was a well-respected school bus driver and became the Head Bus Driver, coordinating transportation for the Northside Victoria area of the Cape Breton Victoria Regional Centre for Education. He operated the family business of Gallop’s Funland for many years. Paul was a quiet mentor to many young people with activities ranging from helping grade primary students learn their ABC’s on the bus, to job training and life skills with high school students he had contact with. Many of these youth continued contact with Paul over the years.

A visitation for Paul will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday January 8th at W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Monday January 9th at St Matthew Wesley United Church, formerly the St. Columba United Church in Leitches Creek. A reception will be held in the Church Hall following the Service. A private Interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations within your local community; suggesting food banks, youth programming or a community organization of your choice.  Online condolences may be sent to the family by leaving a message on the tribute wall of the obituary at www.wjdooley.com .
