It is with heartfelt sadness we, the family announce the passing of Pauline Marie Hillier, age 88, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt on Sunday June 5, 2022 at the Northside Community Guest Home, North Sydney.
Born on June 1, 1934 in Sydney Mines, Pauline was the daughter of the late Joseph and Henrietta (Fortune) Purdie. She was a physician office administrator and was later employed with Devco until her retirement. Pauline was a very social, community minded and passionate woman. Pauline loved spending time with the love of her life, Shirl, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Pauline had a very strong faith and was a member of St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or.
Pauline was predeceased by her loving husband Shirl, whom she loved and missed beyond measure, by her sisters Patsy Baxendale, Jean (Gino) Pero, her brothers Kevin (Carol) Baxendale and John (Sue) Purdie.
Pauline is survived by her three daughters Pauline (Bruce) Melanson, Patricia (Doug) Kohlsmith, Carol Anne (John Hugh) MacLean, by her two sons Cecil (Daryl) Hillier, Brian (Annette) Hillier. She was affectionately known as “the Nan” to her grandchildren; Andrea (Shaun), Kate Melanson, Stephanie (Jeff), Elise (Mitchell) Kohlsmith, Monique (Josh) LeBlanc, Melissa (Doug) Ivey, Josh (Courtney) Hillier, Stephen, Richard, Evan, Marlee (Evan), Michael (Alicia), Ryan (Jen) and Lauren Hillier, her five great grandchildren Hayden and Nolan LeBlanc, Sawyer Ivey, Luna Hillier and Anthony Hillier-Hood, also by her siblings; Arthena Stubbert, Cathy (Hughie) Kiley, Paul Baxendale, Gordie (Inga) Baxendale, Joe (Rose) Purdie, nieces and nephews.
A visitation for family and close friends will be held 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or. Masks are required to be worn at the church during the funeral mass. Burial will follow at St. Joachim Cemetery, Southside Boularderie. Memorial donations may be made to the North Sydney or Sydney Mines Food Banks or the SPCA.
