It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peter David O’Quinn, age 77, on Saturday November 16, 2024 at the Miners Memorial Manor, Sydney Mines, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Dave is survived by his wife Patrice “Pat” (Scott) O’Quinn, a daughter Renee (Ryan), grandsons Sam, Quinn and Kai, brothers; Leonard, Tony (Alena), Tim (Sherry), Ted (Stephanie), nieces and nephews.
Born in Woodstock, New Brunswick, June 27, 1947, Dave was the son of the late Peter and Theresa (MacLean) O’Quinn. Besides his parents Dave was predeceased by his son Paul, a sister; Brenda, brothers; Hugh, Pat and Arthur O’Quinn.
For over 30 years Dave worked as the Manager of the North Sydney Community Forum. He was an avid athlete who enjoyed countless hours on the golf course, and on the ice. Dave was a well-known hockey player and golfer, who won many tournaments and championships and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. To his family, he was simply a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Visitation for Dave will be held 1-3 pm, Saturday, November 23, 2024, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A service of celebration will follow at 3 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Dave Lewis officiating. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
