Reginald “Reg” Norman
North Sydney
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Reginald “Reg” Norman, age 87, on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney, NS.
Born in North Sydney on January 24, 1935, Reg was the son of the late Patrick and Virginia Norman of North Sydney. The last surviving member of his immediate family, Reg was predeceased by brothers Sid and Harry, and sister Joyce. He was also predeceased by his darling daughter Regina Allison, as well as his parents-in-law Joseph and Stella Hickey.
Reg worked and excelled for many years at several jobs in North Sydney. He sold furniture for many years with C. Roy Mason and Company, and later joined with Mike MacNeil to found Remi’s Furniture. Following this, he worked with Canada Post delivering parcels to homes on the Northside. Reg later joined the staff of the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission outlet from which he retired in 1999. Reg loved camping and spent many summers enjoying the trailer life with his wife Carol in St. Ann’s and Whycocomagh. He was quite adept at tinkering around, making and repairing anything that was in need of attention. Reg made many, many friends over the years and was quick to help them out whenever he was called upon to do so. He loved a good story or joke, and his hearty laugh will never be forgotten.
Reg is survived by his wife, the former Carol Hickey, brother-in-law Myrle Hickey of London, Ontario, as well as by a large number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Reg will be held at 3:00 pm Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney with Canon Reg MacDonald officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney, NS.
